Laser cutting is an incredibly precise cutting process that allows us to cut precision parts from many types of sheet metal, plastics and timber.
Laser cutting for metals
Metals suitable for laser cutting include alloy steel, aluminium alloys, stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium, and tool steel. We can cut everything from fabrication pieces to decorative panels and novelty items.
We can cut a wide range of metal sheeting in thicknesses up to:
- 12mm for Stainless Steel
- 8mm for Raw Aluminium*
- 6mm for Marine Grade Aluminium*
- 16mm for Mild Steel
- 16mm for Low Carbon Steel
- 16mm for Spring Steel
- Varying thicknesses for other materials including brass, copper, titanium, zincalume, Colorbond, Galvabond and Zincanneal
*We also have a flatbed CNC router that can cut aluminium of all grades up to 15mm to fine tolerances.
Laser cutting for plastics
Laser cutters are ideal for cutting plastics and acrylics due to the intricate shapes and high quality finishes they can produce. Laser cutters are much faster than a router and offer a level of flexibility and speed not achieved by other methods. They create a “flame polished” edge which would otherwise have to be manually produced if using other cutting processes
We can cut a wide range of plastic materials in thicknesses up to 20mm, including;
- Acrylic
- Polycarbonate
- Plexiglass
- Polyethylene
- ABS
- Delrin
- PETG
- Mylar
- Acrylic (sometimes called Perspex), which we stock a large variety of in varying thicknesses and colours that we can laser cut to your desired size
- Did you know, we can cut thicker plastics on our CNC Rotary engraving and cutting machine?
Laser cutting for timber
Lasers are also ideally suited to engraving and laser cutting wood and timber such as feature panels, wood inlays, toys, decorative items, artistic craftwork, souvenirs and architectural models.
We can cut a wide range of timber and timber products up to a thickness of 20mm, including:
- Solid timber
- Hardwood
- Plywood
- MDF
- Die Board
- Timber Veneers
- Balsa
- Cork
Please note that laser-cut timber has a darkened edge which helps to accentuate the product.
Laser cutting for other materials
Laser cutting is also perfect for use with a large range of other materials. Ideal for templates, patterns, model making, graphic design and much more, the following materials can be cut to varying thicknesses, including:
- Leather
- Paper
- Cork
- Cardboard
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Strawboard
- Fabrics – including cotton, silk, linen and felt
We can also engrave on most of these materials to add a corporate brand or personal touch.
